We gathered confidential and anonymous responses to our online survey in the summer of 2024. More than 1,700 Am Law 200 partners from across the county responded. Here’s what we learned from them:

  • Over the past decade, average compensation for partners has nearly doubled to $1,411,000 in 2024, rising 26% in the last two years alone. Equity partners are earning more than three times more than non-equity partners on average.
  • Average originations have soared to $3,476,000—a 26% increase from 2022. Equity partners continue to generate more than four times the amount of business generated by non-equity partners on average.
  • The average billing rate for all partners has surged by 36% since 2022, now reaching $1,114 per hour.
  • Transparency in compensation leads to satisfaction with compensation. 80% of partners in open compensation systems reported being satisfied with their compensation as compared to only 63% who were satisfied in closed systems.

Partners identifying as men made 29% more on average than partners identifying as women, but for the first time in our survey’s history both groups’ compensation grew at the same rate of 37%. Both men and women also reported nearly identical levels of satisfaction.
