Kim Taylor joined the University of Chicago in August 2014 as Vice President and General Counsel, leading the legal team that advises and represents all units of the University including U.S. and international affiliates. She also represents the University in its role as contract operator to the Department of Energy for the management and operations of the Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory. In addition to her legal role, Kim also oversees the Department of Safety and Security, which includes the University of Chicago Police Department.

Prior to joining the University, Taylor was an equity partner of Kirkland & Ellis, based in the firm’s New York office. During her 18 years at Kirkland, she served as lead counsel to large buyout funds and private and public companies in a wide variety of transactions, ranging from leveraged buyouts, mergers, stock and asset acquisitions, recapitalizations, and private equity investments. Taylor also served as a partner at the Hilton & Bishop law firm in Massachusetts where she represented both for profit and not-for-profit clients in a broad range of transactions.

Taylor received her BA degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley, and her JD, with honors, from the University of California Hastings College of the Law.
